Safeguarding Policy

CCP Counselling is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every person we serve — especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults. This policy outlines our safeguarding commitments and procedures.

July 2026

Our Commitment

CCP Counselling takes its safeguarding responsibilities seriously. We believe every person — regardless of age, ability, or background — has the right to be safe from harm, abuse, and exploitation. Our counsellors are trained to recognise signs of abuse and neglect, and are legally and ethically obligated to act when concerns arise.

Our Safeguarding Principles

1

The welfare of the child or vulnerable person is paramount

In any situation involving a child or vulnerable adult, their safety and wellbeing takes precedence over all other considerations, including confidentiality.

2

Everyone has a responsibility to act

All CCP Counselling practitioners are trained to recognise indicators of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and understand their duty to report concerns to the appropriate authorities.

3

Abuse is never acceptable

CCP Counselling has zero tolerance for any form of abuse, exploitation, or harm — physical, emotional, sexual, or financial — whether perpetrated by a third party or within the counselling relationship itself.

4

Confidentiality has limits

While we uphold strict confidentiality in all counselling relationships, this is overridden when a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm. Clients are informed of this limit before counselling begins.

Mandatory Reporting Obligations

All CCP Counselling practitioners are aware of and comply with mandatory reporting obligations under Queensland law. Under the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld), certain professionals are required to report a reasonable suspicion that a child has been, is being, or is at risk of being harmed. Our counsellors are trained to identify indicators of child abuse and neglect and understand the reporting process.

  • Physical abuse — unexplained injuries, bruising, or signs of physical harm
  • Emotional abuse — persistent patterns of criticism, rejection, or humiliation
  • Sexual abuse — any sexual contact or behaviour involving a child
  • Neglect — failure to provide adequate food, shelter, supervision, or medical care
  • Exposure to domestic and family violence

Working With Children

All CCP Counselling practitioners who work with children and young people hold a current Working With Children Check (Blue Card) as required under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (Qld). These checks are renewed as required by law.
